2006 Fannie Mae Foundation 19th Annual Help the Homeless Walkathon - November 18, 2006 on the National Mall

Walkers helped raise funds to prevent and end homelessness in the region. Funds raised through the Walkathon, and other related activities

benefited the nearly 200 local beneficiary organizations such as Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area that work every day to

provide services to homeless people, with an emphasis on programs that help homeless people return to independent living.

“Refugees know what it means to be homeless,” said Bill Vose, Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area’s

interim Executive Director.

“Refugees and other LSS/NCA clients see the Walkathon as their chance to give back to their community too. They put a face on

homelessness and show that with help from the community, families can overcome homelessness.”
