We will provide non-identifying information, and attempt to answer questions you have regarding your adult adoptee or birth parent with whatever information is available in the file. Please send a notarized letter of request which includes the following information:

Name of the adoptee at the time of birth |
|
Date of birth of the adoptee |
|
Address or area at the time of the placement (if known) |
|
Names of adoptive parents (if applicable) |
|
Your current address and telephone number |
Enclose records search fee of $ 150.00 in form of check or money order payable to Lutheran Social Services/NCA and mail to:

If you are interested in beginning a search for your adult adoptee or birth parent--to obtain more current information, or for a possible reunion, you will have to initiate your request in the jurisdiction where the adoption occurred. When your search has begun, LSS/NCA will charge a minimum fee of $ 500.00 to conduct a search of its records and to make communication with the persons involved. The fee may increase depending on the difficulty in locating the adult adoptee or birth parent.

District of ColumbiaYou must file a petition to break the seal on the adoption with the Superior Court, Family Division. The court will then order LSS/NCA to use its best efforts to locate the adult adoptee or birth parent and find out if they are open to a reunion to to providing more information.
