Volunteering Opportunities

Do you speak Farsi, Arabic, Khurdish, Nepali, Burmese, or Tigrinya?

LSS works with people from all over the world who come here with varying levels of English language skills. We needs volunteers who can help our clients navigate social services and employment opportunities as they rebuild their lives here in the DC metro area.

Resettlement Assistant

Do you like helping people, working with people of diverse cultures, and learning about social services? Work with LSS/NCA staff to help refugees access all basic social services, from airport pick-up to ESOL registration to navigating public transportation to finding a job. We like to work with people of all backgrounds and experiences, and we can be flexible with volunteers' schedules!

Muscle Mover!

LSS needs strong bodies to help us with setting up homes for newly arrived refugees. (It's a great opportunity to show off show of your big heart and your big muscles at the same time!) These opportunities are a good way for small groups as well as individuals to get involved with our services.

We need muscles to help with any of the following:
1. Help pick up donations so that we can set up a home for a newly arrived refugee family. We are especially in need of people who are available on Mondays.
2. Set up an apartment for a refugee family.
3. Sort through our storage facility and help us with inventory so we can be prepared to set up homes as soon as refugees arrive.

TRUCK DRIVER

Help pick up and deliver donations of furniture and household good from donors to refugee families. Our truck is about the size of a small U-Haul and requires a basic driver's license to drive.
