Outreach and Support Specialist

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Maintain current knowledge of the U.S. Resettlement Program & all Refugee and Immigrant Services programs
• Maintain current knowledge of trainings offered at Montgomery College/Montgomery College Refugee Training Center
•Coordinate the Refugee Financial Literacy Project;
•Contact area employers through mailings, phone inquiries, person-to-person meetings, and formal presentations to provide them program information and to inquire about current and future job opportunities
• Develop relationships with area training providers and employers that allow for ongoing placement of TAP participants
• Coordinate with TAP Employment Advocates to match appropriate clients with opportunities
• Organize job fairs and mass hiring events
• Coordinate the Job Club, Job Corps and Job Coach Programs
• Coordinate with the EM to plan and implement luncheons, awards ceremonies, and other job development events
• Make formal presentations to area churches and civic organizations for the purpose of networking and employment development, including Human Resources associations and Chambers of Commerce
• Research job market trends to identify “hidden jobs”, “Green jobs” and untapped opportunities
• Conduct outreach to refugees and asylees for enrollment to LSS/NCA’s employment program
• Refer and coordinate with Resources Developer regarding individual Job Coaches matched with clients
• Assist in developing employment trainings and writing/updating client resumes and cover letters
• Maintain accurate record of all services provided
• Produce reports in a timely manner
• Work as part of the program team and participate in staff meetings and in-service trainings
• Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, social services, business or related field;
or two years related experience and/or training;
Fluency in one or more of the following languages is a plus: French, Somali, Nepali, Farsi, or Burmese
Basic computer skills
Attention to detail and accuracy
Very strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong public speaking, presentation, and networking skills
Ability to work in a diverse environment

An exciting opportunity exists within Caregiver Services, a new program of LSS/NCA’s Church and Community Ministries, for a Program Coordinator. This position is responsible for developing, implementing and coordinating activities to support persons who are caring for aging or disabled family members.

We are looking for a dynamic part-time Program Coordinator. This is a unique opportunity for an individual who enjoys working in the community fostering relationships, and has experience with faith-based entities. This position is eligible for a variety of our competitive health and welfare benefits, as well as vacation and holidays.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in related field or equivalent experience
• Knowledge of caregiving and aging in place issues
• Knowledge of church structures and processes
• Experience with caregiving issues, personally and/or professionally
• Experience in a faith community
• Experience leading, coordinating, evaluating and managing projects
• Experience promoting programs
• Experience planning and delivering training
• Communication skills:
o Writing skills, including the ability to write speeches and articles for publication
o Public speaking skills, including the ability to make effective presentations to a wide range of audiences, e.g., the business community, the public, boards of directors, church councils

Youth Haven Family Activities Intern

Youth Haven Family activities bring parents and kids together for recreation and support services for families living with HIV-AIDS. Quarterly daytime events (Saturdays) and once a year overnight weekend retreat.

Responsibilities:
• Assist coordinator with scheduling and camper recruitment;
• Assist with staff training events;
• Organize and coordinate the acquisition of donations;
• Oversee the purchasing of supplies and their storage after events;
• Communicate with staff, counselors, nurses and social workers throughout the planning process;
• Participate on-site during teen retreat (room and board provided).

Qualifications:
• Passion for working in a human-service setting to support youth with special needs;
• Major course of study preferred: social work, public administration, sociology, education, recreation, liberal arts;
• Demonstrated skills in office etiquette and computer applications; strong writing and verbal abilities; must keep confidentiality of clients;
• Self-starter, motivated and cooperative work style;
• Must have clean police record and negative TB test.

Youth Haven Retreat Intern

Youth Haven retreats for teenagers take place three times per year, providing overnight experiences in leadership development and healthy recreation for youth living with HIV-AIDS. Mentoring and occasional day activities are offered to youth between retreats.
