Life is meant to be shared. At LSS/NCA, we believe no one should have to walk through life alone, especially children. For more than 50 years, LSS/NCA has helped connect hundreds of children in the District of Columbia area with loving, supportive families through our adoption and foster care programs. Through a team of professional staff and dedicated foster parents, we help children and their families heal. Whether we are coordinating a temporary arrangement for a foster child or facilitating the final stages of a formal adoption, we always keep the best interest of the child as our focus. If you are considering sharing your life with a child or simply want to support our program, we invite you to learn more about our adoption and foster care services.
Adoption and Foster Care Services
Adoption Services
Our adoption program has two main components: home study and post-placement visits for domestic and international adoptions. Our trained professionals will help you navigate every step of the adoption process and conduct your home study and post-placement visits. If you are interested in being a foster parent, where adoption is sometimes a possible outcome, visit Foster Care Placement to learn more.

Foster Care Placement
Each year, as many as 500,000 children in the United States enter the foster care system. Working in partnership with the District of Columbia Child and Family Services Administration (CFSA), LSS/NCA recruits and trains adults locally to become foster parents for neglected or abused children living in the District of Columbia.
Unaccompanied Refugee Minor Care
Combining our specializations in refugee care and advocacy for children, LSS/NCA serves a special population of vulnerable youth through our foster care program—minors who come to the U.S. as refugees without any family.
Post Adoption Search
Looking for a birth parent or child? LSS/NCA can help. We provide comprehensive post-adoption search services for individuals who were adopted through LSS/NCA or made their adoption plan with our agency. If you are looking to connect with your biological family, our services are confidential and counseling is available.

How You Can Help
In order to reach as many children as possible, LSS/NCA relies on the generous support of volunteers and financial contributions. We invite you to join us in our effort to make sure every child returns to a safe and supportive home each night.
Share Your Home
The most significant contribution you can offer LSS/NCA is to become a foster parent. Foster parents provide a stable and loving environment to children in crisis. Share your home and heart and you will give a child hope.
Share Your Time
At LSS/NCA, we engage volunteers in all our programs, including Adoption and Foster Care. Examples of volunteer opportunities include organizing activities for children while foster parents receive training, mentoring young adults and coordinating a baby shower for a new family.
Share Your Treasure
Each year, LSS/NCA works with 65-70 foster children and their families. With your financial donation, LSS/NCA can offer their families fun, educational programming as well as provide additional training and support to adoptive and foster parents.
