Knowledge is power. Our goal is to empower our community.
At LSS/NCA, community education and congregational partnerships inspire everything that we do. We strive not only to educate our neighbors on the issues that affect their communities, but also to inform them about the ways LSS/NCA is able to help.
Through the education services we provide, we hope to build a more aware, more accepting, more empowered community. Because we believe that nobody who needs our services should be without them, we also hope that, through our education programs, families and individuals will know how we can help and feel better equipped to use us as a resource.
Topics of Education and Advocacy
Local Issues
The four programs that LSS/NCA provides (immigrant and refugee services, the HIV/AIDS Youth Haven, adoption and foster placement, and disaster preparation and response) stem from a direct need in our community for those services. LSS/NCA strives to educate our neighbors about these issues and our services, so they know the facts as well as how LSS/NCA can help.
Homelessness Education
Whether helping displaced hurricane victims find a home, providing a refugee with a place to stay, or matching a child with loving foster parents, relieving homelessness is one of the biggest services LSS/NCA provides.
International Human Rights Awareness
As refugees come to our neighborhoods seeking asylum, it is important for community members to understand the global issues that have brought their new neighbors to America. At LSS/NCA, we sponsor and participate in community discussions at churches and civic organizations that open citizens eyes, raise awareness, and create dialogue about international human rights violations.
Disaster Preparedness Education
When disaster strikes, its important that local groups and churches have a response plan in place. LSS/NCA works with community organizations to develop strategies and build networks for effective disaster response.

How You Can Help
Invite LSS/NCA to Speak at Your Next Event.
If you are a local organization with members who might be in need of our services or a group with members whod be interested in supporting our services, contact us about setting up an informational presentation. We offer age-appropriate, interactive sessions for children, youth and adult groups. All presentations are free of charge and always spark valuable conversations.
Host a Social Justice Event at Your Home or Congregation.
Many times a year, individuals ask us to come to their homes, organizations, or congregations to talk about the issues affecting the community and the services we provide to help. These intimate meetings incite meaningful dialogue, inspire attendees to act, and often raise valuable funds.
Support Continued Education.
Because we offer all of our services free of charge, we depend on your financial donations to continue running our programs. Your contribution will allow us to accept more speaking invitations and reach more audiences with our message and service.
