Refugee Employment Services

Refugees and aslyees introduce a wonderful range of skills and talents to the American workforce.

With backgrounds in engineering to agriculture, newcomers are eager to gain employment and begin providing for their families again. LSS/NCA’s Refugee Employment Services are designed to provide comprehensive job placement and follow up services to clients and employers in Northern Virginia, Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties, Frederick, MD, and the Baltimore area.

Job Placement

Upon arrival, every employable refugee adult is matched with an LSS/NCA employment advocate to help them secure work as quickly as possible. Employment advocates meet with clients to assess their skills and interests in order to match them with an appropriate first job in this country. Clients are also referred to training and education partners to enhance their job opportunities. After a placement is made, advocates will remain in contact with the client for a minimum of 90 days to ensure the match is successful. LSS/NCA has helped refugees begin careers in a variety of professions from health care workers to commercial drivers. Clients are eligible to return for employment services for up to five years. LSS/NCA is always looking to expand our employer partnerships for our clients.

Pre-employment Orientation and Training

Newcomers also participate in employment orientation workshops and job skills training so they may succeed in the American workforce. Pre-employment workshops address topics specific to the United States, including how to locate jobs, the application process, interview techniques, and American workplace culture. We also refer clients to more intensive vocational training at institutions such as Baltimore City Community College and Montgomery Country Refugee Center at Montgomery College where they can enroll in classes such as advanced English for Speakers of Other Languages, automotive repair, food safety, basic computer skills, and pharmacy.

Employer Support

LSS/NCA is proud to have maintained excellent relationships with hundreds of businesses throughout the Northern Capital Area. We make every effort to match the best client to employers, and we provide on-going support to ensure job retention. LSS/NCA is also available to provide cultural orientation training for employers interested in learning more about the backgrounds of their new employees.
