Refugee Resettlement

 

Goal:  to welcome and provide initial support for newly-arrived refugees, asylees and victims of human trafficking.

Client Services achieves the work of resettlement through contracts with Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services (LIRS) to provide these specific programs:

Reception and Placement.  Currently, we are welcoming refugees from:  Burma, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia, Ethiopia, Vietnam, and Iraq.

bullet

Early Self-Sufficiency Program.  Combines private donations with federal matching funds to provide an alternative to welfare for new arrivals.  The goal is to find employment for the refugee as soon as possible.

bullet

Social Support.  Providing administrative support, emergency transportation, and interpretation services to refugees in Prince George's and Montgomery Counties (Maryland).
